J. David Markham Collection
The J. David Markham Collection contains over 1,000 titles and prints from the library of internationally acclaimed Napoleonic scholar J. David Markham. Subject strengths include the French Revolution, the military and political history of France under the Consulate and First Empire (1799-1815), and personal narratives from Napoleon’s contemporaries. This collection also features dozens of rare engravings that provide a study in the Revolutionary Era and Napoleonic portraiture and artistic portrayal.
This collection was acquired from J. David Markham. Markham is a historian and educator who has written extensively on the Napoleonic era, including books Napoleon’s Road to Glory, Napoleon and Dr. Verling on St Helena, and To Befriend an Emperor: Betsy Balcombe’s Memoirs of Napoleon on St Helena. He has served as President of the International Napoleonic Society since 2008.

Gayle K. Hamilton Library Collection
The Gayle K. Hamilton Library Collection is unique collection exploring history and culture of Louisiana, with a particular focus on exploration and cross-cultural interactions prior to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The multilingual collection comprises of some 4,000 volumes and contains materials in English, French, and Spanish; the oldest titles date back to the seventeenth century. Highlights include the superior second English edition of Pierre-Francois-Xavier de Charlevoix’ A voyage to North-America (1766) and first edition copies of Antoine-Simon Le Page du Pratz’ Histoire de la Louisiane (1758) and James Adair’s The History of the American Indians (1775).
This collection was donated by Judge Gayle Hamilton of Shreveport, Louisiana. Judge Hamilton led a varied career as a Treaty Affairs Analyst for the State Dept., a Pan American Oil Scout, and an attorney before being elected State District Judge of Caddo Parish. He was actively involved in local organizations, including the Council for Development of French, the International Trade Council of Red River Region, and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.

Dayton Waller, Jr. Collection
The Dayton Waller, Jr. Collection is an exceptional selection of military and aircraft history books housed within the Noel Collection. It contains over 1,000 items pertaining to different aspects of twentieth century wars. There are books on tanks, land troops, paratroopers, key historical figures, guns, aircraft design, naval battles, and much more! In addition to the books, there are magazines like After the Battle and Wheels and Tracks. A majority of the items are written in English, but there is a sizable number of German books as well.
This collection was donated by the family of Dayton Waller, Jr., of Shreveport, Louisiana. Waller was a prominent local farmer and businessman and was affiliated with many community organizations, such as the Ark-La-Tex Gun Collector's Association. He was also a member of the American Legion and the National World War II Museum. He died on May 26, 2015.
